However, a quick search shows that
Staples (just to pick one well-known Canadian retailer...) sells the
Microsoft Office 2003 Standard Edition for Students and Teachers for
$199.86 loonies...

Loonies, Fred? Who're you calling a loony?

<Chuckle> Happy new year, Dirk! I cast no aspersions on anyone; up
here in the frozen north we have one dollar and two dollar coins. The
one dollar coin features a loon, and is commonly called a "loonie";
the two dollar coin has acquired the nickname "toonie".

Ah. I figured it was a reference to Canadian dollar, but I wondered
what the source of "loonie" might be.

Happy New Year to you, too, Fred! It's pretty good so far ...

And since the toonie has a portrait of HRH Queen Elizabeth on the
front, and of a polar bear on the other side, it's the only chance
you're ever likely to have to see the Queen of England with a bear
behind!

Tell me John... did you just make that up or have you been lurking, waiting
for a chance to use that one for years? Either way, I echo Dirk's
response...
