How not to preview information in formula bar when in a cell w/lots of info?

I've looked and looked in the archives of teh excel ngs via google. I
can't seem to find this info so I know I'm not asking for the right
info. Help file also unhelpful, probably for the same reason.

When we have more than on "line" of text in a cell, and when the cell
is the active one, the formula bar shows all this info in that sort of
preview but that obstructs the information in the cells directly below
the formula bar.

I can't remember how to turn that feature off. Anyone know?

Only way I can think is
Tools->Options, View tab, uncheck Formula Bar and

Slightly shorter by a few keystrokes <g> is:
View > Uncheck Formula Bar

I learnt the above from the wonderful folks here,
amongst another 10,000 or so things ..
(just passing it on ..)

Thanks !

Yet another tip to remember <g>

<rofl> Oh, boy, I did it again. No guys, thanks. I should have been
clearer. I need the formula bar. Yes, it sure is easy to get rid of
it <lol>. No, it's when the contents of the cell equal more than one
line, it pulls down to display all the contents of that line
obstructing the first row or so of the cell itself visible on the
screen. It's that particular feature of the formula bar display I
need to switch off. I found it so easily last fall but now I think
I'm brain-dead. I actually think I found it myself, come to think of
it (which is probably why I couldn't find anything in the archives,
then). Drat, wish I could remember what it is I found that turns
multiple line display off and only display one line in formula bar
rolldown preview.

Thanks, folks! :eek:D

Would you be so kind as to mark this thread as "watched", and come back to
it and post the answer, if you should happen to remember the solution again.

Have not heard of any setting that would prevent this.

Work-around could be to enter a Window>Split at say A5. Select your cell
with the long formula in the lower part of the split window. The text in the
formula bar would cover just the top part of the split window.

I know it's clunky but what else?

Yes. Will do.

Relatively easy workaround: Resize your worksheet window so it doesn't
take up the full Excel window. Then move the top of that window down
enough so that the multi-line text display doesn't interfere with any
cells.

Consider less verbosity in the cell text. <g>
