How Often To Archive - OUTLOOK 2007

I recommend as often as needed for the person or enterprise involved.

What are the determinants? Folder size? Outlook performance? Usage
patterns?

Is this your own personal account? Is this the autoarchive function you are
referring to? You might want to move data to a separate .pst or archive.pst
to maintain performance in your main .pst file. So how often is subjective
and relative. I have not run autoarchive in.... well... never. But I have
separate .pst files to maintain archives of specific content managed through
rules I created in Outlook.

Now you can get 100 different answers on when it may be necessary to reduce
the content in your inbox. I suggest a 5000 item limit to your main inbox
and a 5GB limit to your primary .pst file. Others may have completely
different sweet spots.

Completely depends on your mail usage, requirements and backup strategy.
FWIW; I never archive on my main machine. On another I have it set to delete
older items from certain folders.

I archive weekly but it depends on how much mail you get and how much you
want to have very quickly available.
