How place text before a table ?

D

David

I just created a brand new document and the first thing I
did was to insert a table.

Now I don't seem to be able to type anything before this
table. When I click there, it thinks I want to edit the
table.

Help!

I've had this problem too. The best thing to do is try to
make a page break just before it. You can do this if you
move your cursor until you get the cross, then press
ctrl+enter. Once you've got the empty page, you can type
your text and pull the table up if you need to.

Hi, David,

There's some special handling in Word for that. Put the cursor in the cell
in the top left corner of the table, just to the left of the first character
in the cell, and press Enter. Anywhere else in the table, that would put a
paragraph mark inside the table; but at that special position it will place
the paragraph mark before the table.

If that doesn't work (I think it was first available in Word 97), put the
cursor in the same place and use the menu command Table > Split Table.
