Hi Dim,
There is a beta of the Twin-Pack downloads (File Format Awareness and Compatability/Converter set) that will add the ability to
read/write Office 2007 files in Office XP and Office 2003. Both parts of the Twin-Pack should be installed together.
http://microsoft.com/office/preview/beta/converter.mspx
There will be a final version when MS Office 2007 is released and while it *should* be able to work with any of the .docx, .docm,
etc files created in the Office 2007 Beta 2 file format there aren't any guarantees that this will be true (i.e. fixing a bug from
Beta 2 may cause an issue with a file created in Beta 2).
You can save all of the files in Beta 2 in Office 2007 legacy formats using File=>Save as and/or by setting the default file formats
to the classic ones in the options dialog for each app (File=>[app] Options)
===========a further question but on related theme (and can work out how to reply here
but not make new post)...
have installed beta, but thinking ahead if i decide either not to conintue
with the beta, or to not purchse in the future and revert to office 2003, is
there a tool to convert office 2007 files to office 2003 format, or is there
a patch for office 2003 to allow it to read office 2007 files..
just occured to me that anything done using 2007 will not open in previous versions of office... <<
