How to access issues database directly?

We are running Microsoft Project 2002, including the
SharePoint server. I would like to be able to access the
database or filesystem where issue information is stored --
that is issues that are associated with projects. Does
anyone know where this information resides? Is it in a
database table somewhere? If so, where I can find the
schema for this database? Thanks in advance.
