How to add drop shadow

I select the GIF I want to put a drop shadow on but the drop shadow
command on the drawing toolbar is greyed out. Am I doing something
wrong? How does one put a shadow on a GIF, anyway?

With an image editing program. I've never used the drawing tools in FP, but
if I remember correctly, a drop shadow can only be applied to a graphic that's
created using FP's drawing tools. You can't apply a shadow to a GIF image that
was created in another application.
