how to add footers to ALL sheets in a workbook at once?

There must be a way to format all sheets in a workbook with the same footer
format (i.e. file name, tab and date) at once rather than tab by tab. Can
anyone tell me how?

Try grouping all your worksheets.

Right click on any of them and select "Group Sheets"

Then set the footer.

Remember to ungroup the worksheets when you're done.
