How to always paste with the destination formatting or as plain te

I would like to know how to configure Office 2003 (Word & Excell) so that it
always uses the destination formating or alternatively plain text, as the
PASTE default format.

Using the source format as the default option for PASTE complicates
everything too much.

And the Search and Help option are useless to find how to do so.

You can set up a macro which does a Paste Special, Unformatted Text, and
assign it to the key combination you normally use for pasting, or to some
other key combination if you want to be able to retain formatting
sometimes and not other times. You can also use PureText, which will give
you a plain-text paste function everywhere, not just in Word.

I was dubious about PureText when I installed it 3 weeks ago
but I've still got it running and I use it quite frequently. I
remain grateful to Michael Santovec for the suggestion.

I prefer to do Paste Special instead!. PureText is yet another hog on
the system resources for which there may or may not be any support. In
UK we don't beieve in such things as FREE Lunch!

Lacking any other viable option I choose to use “PureTextâ€. Thanks for the
recommendation, and also of course to the author for the program itself.

WORD itself uses at least ten times more system resources than PureText.

PureText usage is an unfortunate consequence of Office 2003 forcing the
change of the default behaviour on a basic function (PASTE) that most other
applications implement in a logical way.

“Paste with format†should always have been an optional function, since it’s
an extension of the basic functionality (paste). And then options to choose
which format (source or destination) to apply by default, should have been
present.

That’s the logical way to have done it.

“Paste special†it’s very inconvenient to use continuously since it forces
you to perform every time, an extra selection and several extra clicks,
neither of which helps to improve the health of your fingers, or the speed of
your task.

I think, most likely there is some registry entry which perhaps just for
testing purposes, could change the default behaviour of the PASTE function.
The trick of course it’s to know which one it’s. If anybody knows it I would
appreciate if it could be e-mailed or posted here, but until then I’ll keep
using “PureTextâ€.

No question, it's a matter of preference, but I thought the UK was all
about the dole.

In any event, I use PureText on both home and work systems and I can't
detect any preceptible drain on resources. I actually use the function
more at work, where I frequently have to copy and paste from HTML
docuements. HTML is an abomination that should be forbidden by law.

I don't believe there is any such registry setting. There's no reason why
there must be, and the fact that different programs handle the unformatted
paste differently suggests that it's not seen as a basic common feature.
Within Word itself you can create a macro which does Paste Special,
Unformatted Text and assign a key combination, even Ctrl-V if you like, to
that macro.
