How to avoid reformatting numbers in pivot table

Every time I make any selection inside an Excel pivot table, my
formatting of the "amount" field reverts back to the original
(although I did format the number in the source data to what I
wanted). Is there a way to avoiid reformatting numbers everytime
selections and/or changes are made with the same pivot table?

I'm running Office 2004.

In the PT toolbar, choose Table options, check the "Preserve formatting"
checkbox.

I previously tried this, but it didn't work for me. I'm running
Office 2004 on the Mac FYI.

It works fine for me - preserving number format through refreshes.
Perhaps you can be a bit more specific about what isn't working...

All is well. I'm relatively new to Pivot tables, and I was trying to
retain formatting done on the regular toolbar, and not within the
Pivot table wizard. I'm learning every day here. Thanks again.
