How to change footers in a brief; the first 3 pages are i, ii, ii.

I am working on a legal brief. The footers are the problem. For the first
three pages of the brief, I am using i, ii, iii to delinate the pages. From
page 4 forward, I want to use arabic numbers. I can't seem to make it work
.... the programming is "either/or" not both ... please help!!
