How to change form design without losing data in existing forms?

How can an InfoPath form xml file be made to work with an updated form
design, where the underlying schema is slighly different?

Save a form using the new template and open it in Notepad to view its XML.
Then modify the XML of an existing form to reflect the changes in the new
form. Assuming you haven't also changed the path to the InfoPath template,
this action should help you retain existing forms with data.

Hey Keith
If you click on tools>Form Options and select the versioning tab you can
select to upgrade existing forms.
What this means is if InfoPath will upgrade forms cretaed with an older
version of the form template to match the new form template.
