If the source workbook is open the links in the dependent workbook will
update when you do a manual or automatic calc. I don't think you can stop
that. If the source workbook is closed and you have Ask to Update Automatic
Links selected under Tools, Options, Edit then you'll be asked if you want
the links updated when you open the dependent workbook. In Excel 2002 and
2003 you can control this prompt (under Edit, Links). One option is don't
ask and don't update, which is what you want. But again, this only applies
if the source workbook is closed.
