How to change PWA default Project Server when opening a .mpp file

J

jrunner

I had uploaded a project .mpp file to a previous Project Server, and now I am
opening this same file and trying to connect and authenticate with the new
server, the following happens when I double click to open the file from
Explorer.

1. "Unexpected Server Response"

"Project Server has returned an unexpected response"
"Click the view button to view the server response as an error page
in your browser."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. I click the okay button instead of the view button so I can connect to
different
project server.

3. I have serveral accounts to choose so I choose the new project server to
connect and click the connect button.

4. The "Project Server Security Logon" pop up displays, and I enter my
password
and press <enter>.

5. I receive “You have entered an incorrect user name/password combination.
(5002)â€

I have performed the following to troubleshoot:

- Changed to Project Server authentication and reset my password.
- Checked permissions to the project file forby right clicking
under /properties/security
- Changed /Collaboration Options under MS Project file but no change to
authentication.
- Test URL does work from the project file, so this is good.

Thanks for your help,
JR

Hi JR.

Are you working with Project Server 2003 or 2002?
If you have 2003 and you want to connect with a Project Professional 2003
client, you have to make sure you have the rigth permissions for it. There's
a permission called "Connect to Project Server using Microsoft Project 2002".

The error in your number 5 sounds like you might have mixed up Windows
authentication and Project Server authentication. Please check in PWA how
your account is set up. You can see that in Admin/Manage Users and Groups/
then choose your user from the drop down and look at the "authentication
type" below.
This should either be Windows or Project Server Authentication, and you have
to be sure, that in your client you use the same type. Open Project
Professional locally and go to Tools/Enterprise Options/Microsoft Project
Server Accounts and check the account you want to use.

Hope this helps
Sylvia
