How to check for new email upon opening Outlook?

When I open Outlook, how do I set it to automatically download new email
without having to hit the send/receive button?

Try this:

Tools, Options, Mail Setup, Under send/receive check "send immediately when
connected."

The setting is at Tools | Options | Mail Setup. Send immediately on
connection....

The correct answer would have been to set up an automatic Send/Receive
interval.

I have it set to send/receive at 5-minute intervals. I just moved from
Outlook Express to Outlook. In OE, when you open the mail window, it
automatically checks for new mail. In Outlook it does not. Surely there's a
setting somewhere. Thanks

Defining a send/receive interval causes Outlook to perform a send/receive
when it starts. There is no separate setting. I do have to say, however,
that I find Outlook 2007, while usually doing so does not always perform the
initial send/receive. Prior versions always did.
