Wordperfect allows overstrike (format-typesetting-overstrike), for example, a
letter with a dot or line under it. How can I do this in Powerpoint or Word?

What character are you trying to create? The majority of special characters
can be created using the Ctrl key and number pad combination. In your
progarms under Accesories, System Tools click on Character Map and see if
what you wnat to create is not already there.

You can also do it by doing Insert -> Symbol and selecting the character you
need from the Symbol list. You may need to add support for foreign languages
to your Windows, which you do under Start -> Settings -> Control Panel ->
Regional Options. In Word, you may define shortcuts for the special
characters you use often. Then, you can type your text in Word and copy and
paste it to PowerPoint.
