Is there any program available that can convert a powerpoint slideshow
into mpeg file that can be run in any VCD player?

Take a look at PowerPoint2DVD, it can help you convert a powerpoint
slideshows into mpeg with narration record, bg music and selection
menu, etc.. Just do a search in help for 'convert powerpoint to mpeg',
should explain it nicely.
