The Access 2000 file format is the default for Access 2003. It can be shared
with all versions from 2000 through 2003. While you can convert everything
from 2000 to 2003, the reverse may not be completely possible, since some
2003 features will not be available.

To convert, first make a copy of your file as a backup, then:

1. Open the database
2. Close all objects. (forms, reports, etc.)
3. Go to Tools ... Database Utilities
4. Choose "Convert Database" and the format.

What are the advantages of converting access 2000 to access 2003 format?

The only one that I can think of off hand (at least that I use) is the
ability to make 2003 MDEs which can't be done using Access 2003 and the 2000
format. All my databases use the default 2000 format with the exception of
earlier (Access 97) and those I convert to MDEs.

the following URL. Though it discusses Access 2000 and 2002, not 2003, most
of seems to be still relevant as far as I can tell ...
