how to convert datafile from 97 to 2003 programmatically

We're porting our 97 FE to 2003. All that remains is to convert existing
users BE to 2003 format. Is there a better way than shelling msaccess with
the convert parameter? I'd rather do it from vba when I can handle errors
etc.
