How to deal with Space in Code39 Barcode

Access97
We print bar codes on our parts reports using the Code39 Truetype font.
However one group of part numbers contains spaces
e.g. 123 456 7890

Is there a way to test these numbers and where there is a space actually
enter the Underscore character (read in Code39 as equiv to Space)

Any help gratefully appreciated.
