How to Disable 2003 Server Extensions?

I'm not sure this is the correct forum, but promise not to cross post.

I am trying to create a Discussion Group on a new website. I am using
FrontPage 2003 and when I try to post a message on the new page I get this
error message:
FrontPage Run-Time Component Page

You have submitted a form or followed a link to a page that requires a

web server and the FrontPage Server Extensions to function properly.

This form or other FrontPage component will work correctly if you

publish this web to a web server that has the FrontPage Server

Extensions installed.

I emailed the website and they tell me that they don't have server
extensions for 2003, that I should use 2000. Well, I don't have 2000. Is
there a way to disable some functions and create a discussion group. Is
creating discussion groups a 2002 enhancement?

Server extensions and FrontPage are two different things. Webs created with FP 2003 run on
FrontPage server extensions version 2000 or 2002. There are no 2003 extensions.

When you publish are you publishing using http://website.com ?? If not you are: 1. breaking the
extensions on the server and 2. not publishing all of the files needed to run your discussion.

I'm very confused. I do understand the difference between the server
extension and FP. The Tech Service reply from my website said the
extensions on their site support FP 2000 but not 2002 and by extention,
2003. I don't understand the question about "publishing using
http://website.com, and the next two items. I copied all 4 htm's created by
the Wizard to the website. Were there other files I needed to copy. Is
that what the "hidden directory" is about.

Please pardon all the questions - I've only been using FP for 2 weeks and
have a lot to learn.

Thanks, Jim Moore

I have used FrontPage2003 with a server extended with FP2000 extensions for
over a year without problems. Some functions in FrontPage2003 will not work
with FP2000 extensions, but discussion webs are unaffected.

You must always Publish your web to the server. Use the menu File->Publish
Site and complete the dialogue in the next screens. Your publish
destination will be of the form http://www.example.com where
www.example.com is your domain name. Your host should be able to give
additional information on this, if needed.

If you use FTP to upload your pages FrontPage run time components, like the
discussion web, will not work, and the extensions on the server will be
corrupted and broken.

Thank you for the clarification on Publish. It did make a difference, but I
still get the same error message when I click on Post. I have gone to Tools
Page Options > Authoring and unchecked the various SharePoint options. If
I can get the Discussion Web Site Wizard and Publish the results, I get the
error message. My host says the problem in incompatability between FP 2003
and the FP2000 server extensions. Is there some bare bones alternative?

The discussion web has not changed since FrontPage2000, so there should not
be any incompatibility issues. The "bare bones" alternatives to the
FrontPage discussion web involve server side scripting with ASP, PHP,
Perl/CGI - whatever your host will support. There are ready made scripts to
be found.

Post a URL to your discussion web.
