How to display directory files automatically in alphabetical order

Q

Qualityman

I'm using Office97 and when directory file lists are examined they almost
never open/are displayed in alphabetical order. Is there some setting that
can be changed to sort files in a preset manner; such as, alphabetical, by
date, or type?

If you are referring to the File/Open dialog then click the View drop
down at the top and switch to Details. Then click a column heading to
change the sort order. Click the column heading again to change the
sort from Ascending to Descending.

Sorry, I didn't add that I already do that. Is there not some setting
within Office or Windows 2000 that can be changed to bring this list up
alphabetically?

I guess I don't know what you want, then. Once you sort the files
however you want them sorted then they should always display in the
same sort order regardless of the view. Can you provide some
additional specifics?
