When we implemented Project Server 2003 we did not enable the "Hide Task"
option for the web users. I would now like to enable that option for the
users. Where is that done?

The "Allow" box for "Hide Task from Timesheet" is checked in Server
Configuration Features submenu, but how do you display the option to the
users? Is that done via the "Menus" submenu of the Server Configuration? If
it is, I don't see that option anywhere. Any help will be greatly
appreciated.

It sounds like your Project Server administrator did not turn off the Hide
Task feature at the global level in Project Server, which is shown by the
Allow setting for this permission in the Server Configuration page. He/she
may have turned off this permission for individual Groups, instead. To
allow this permission, he/she should navigate to the Manage users and groups
page, select a group such as Team Members, and then click the Modify Group
button. In the Global Permissions grid, scroll to the Hide Task permission
and set it to Allow. This should be done for every Group in the grid to
make sure it is enabled for everyone.

Just a note: the permission should have been turned off originally at the
global level on the Server Cofiguration page, which would have made it
easier to turn on again. Hope this helps.

To enable Team Members to be able to hide tasks:
- Start Project Web Access
- Click Admin
- Select Manage Users & Groups
- Select Groups in the Action bar (on the left)
- Select the "Team Members" group then click "Modify Group"
- Scroll to the bottom of the page to Global Permissions
- Check the Allow box for "Hide Task from Timesheet"
- Click Save Changes

Have the user exit and re-enter PWA. The button should now be on their
screen.

If you have other Groups that you've disabled this functionality, you'll
need to repeat this for each of those groups.

"10K",

Thanks for taking the time answer my question. We implemented Project
Server 2003 about a year ago, and I had forgotten where we turned off the
ability to "Hide Tasks". Your answer pointed me to the proper place to turn
on the feature. We had turned off this ability originally out of fear that
the feature would be abused.

Thanks again,

Your point about we should have turned this off at the global level on the
Server Cofiguration page is well taken. This was my bad.

FYI, we had turned off this ability originally out of fear that the feature
would be abused, plus the warning message that implies you can never see the
task again if you hide it. I did not realize until I read your post of
11/5/04 that hidden tasks can come back if the Project Manager republishes
the plan.

Thanks again,

Dan Ross
