Hi

a) format the cell as Custom "00000"
b) format the cell as Text
c) preceede the number with apostrophe, i.e. enter '04980

Try typing an apostrophe before the number....it won't show up, it just sets
the cell to TEXT format.........or, pre-format the cell for TEXT.

He mentioned adding a 0 at the end. If he is typing ing 498, the first
suggestion would display 49800 rather than 04980.

A format that would work is 0000\0

Hi

When 498 is entered, the first suggestion displays 00498. Or when the format
is "000000", then 000498
When 49800 (or 049800) is entered with format "000000", 049800 is returned

OP mentioned that he is entering 049800, but sees 4980 !!!
I didn't notice the difference in trailing 0's, my mistake of-course. I see
2 explanations for it only:
1) a typo from OP in message;
2) Fixed Decimals in Tools.Options.Edit is set to 1
