How to edit a Visio Diagram without Visio?

I have sent a file to a client and it contains a Visio diagram. The client
would like to edit the diagram but does not have the Visio software. Can
this diagram be edited in another Microsoft Program?

No. Your client can view the file with the free Visio Viewer, but will not
be able to edit it.

There is, however, a trial version that's fully functional and who knows,
they might be so taken with it they want one of their very own!

The Viewer is available here:

While the trial is on the Visio web site:

http://office.microsoft.com/visio

Hope that helps.

Best regards

John

Hi ESWA,

Visio also has an XML format (.vdx) that can be edited to some extent. One
could easily change data-values stored with shapes, for example, or text on
shapes.

But to visually edit the diagram, well, I guess that is the value that Visio
adds. We can understand that this is where Microsoft would earn some money
for all the work they've done.

You may have some luck by saving the fle as a .pdf (Adobe Acrobat) file. To
really edit the file though you or your client will need the full versiion of
Adobe Acrobat, not just the free downloadabel reader.

Chris,

Tell me more about the XML format (.vdx). I do believe since the client
wants to make simple changes to show us this may be the route to go.
