How to eliminate "soft" pages inserted by Word?

In a lengthy document, Word inserts (without my instructions) several so-called "soft pages". I find nowhere the written command that I could erase (not even in Normal view). They are "hidden" and distort the whole sequence of page numbering. I already checked beginning/ending of previous/next paragraph separating pages. Has anyone any idea?

If none of the paragraphs is formatted as "Page break before," then do you
have a section break that could have morphed from "Next page" to "Odd page"?
If so, Word will insert a blank even page when necessary. You will not see
this even in Print Preview (unless you're displaying a two-page spread), but
it will "print." If you have a header/footer or even page numbers on the
pages, you can determine from whether or not the "blank" page has the
header/footer/page number whether it's a blank page generated by Word to
fill a section (which will be *entirely* blank) or a page inserted by manual
page breaks or "Page break before" formatting (which will have the
header/footer/page number). And of course if the pages are not blank but
just partially filled, then the cause is almost certainly paragraph
formatting (not just "Page break before"; "Keep with next" can also cause
this problem).

Thanks, Suzanne, always so helpful. My problem appears to be more "complex": two-page per letter size sheet, set for "Continuous" page numbering, I verified and all pages have the footer I entered at first, in the whole document Word has inserted five blank pages --however, the number sequence is correct. For example, on x sheet it prints Page 45 on the left (which is correct), totally blank page on the right, and then 46 on the left and 47 on the right, which of course distorts the pagination and the location of the numbers. I have not changed "paragraph formatting". No question, Word has introduced those blank pages; and I do not mind insofar as I know how to kill them.

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Oh, gack! This does sound dire. The worst of it is that Word is inserting
*unnumbered* pages, and I can see how this would be totally unacceptable.
Moreover, I don't have a clue what might cause it. Are you using the "2
pages per sheet" option in the Print dialog or the one in Page Setup? I
would like to think that the latter might be more dependable (since at least
you should be able to see in Print Preview what you're going to get).

Correct, Suzanne, I have the Page Setup to 2 pages per sheet. I am glad that you agree: this is an incredible "independent" deed by Word. Any idea on how to kill such blanl and unnumbered page
Thanks

Suzanne, sorry I left something out in my last reply: in Print Preview, you can see on the screen the two pages on one sheet, one sheet after another, perfect. However, when you print you have the problem (blank, unnumbered pages)

In that case I would tend to suspect a problem with the printer driver.
Perhaps see if you can find an updated driver at the manufacturer's Web
site?
