how to email user a file after registration form filled out?

I have a website with a registration form. Once the user fills out the form,
I would like to send him/her an email with a file (a white paper) attached.
This ensures that the email address that the user supplies is a real one. I
understand that this involves creating a server side script. Can anyone
point me to an example of such a script? I use FP2002 and know that my ISP
supports FP server extensions.
