How to embed m4a song I own into PowerPoint and transport it

Hi,

In the Windows version of PowerPoint I can embed a song into a PowerPoint.
How do I do that with the Mac Office 2008 version? I have inserted a song
and it plays the entire slide presentation, but when I email it to someone
they can't hear the song.

While I moved the song into iTunes to save space it is a song I pulled over
from my own library, not one I purchased on iTunes.

If iTunes DRM is the issue, can you recommend a converter to take my file
back to an mp3 format?

I'm running 10.5.6 on a MacBook Pro.

Thanks.

Change the file to AAC or AFF, Make a new playlist in iTunes, select
burn disk with the item in it, and burn a CD. Transfer the song from
the CD to your powerpoint project it will no loger be protected. and
should play. make sure that you can only use 20 sec. per fair use
copyright.

Keith,

Thank you. While a bit more complicated than I expected it will solve my
problem. Two other questions. Would this work if I transferred the newly
formatted song to my Vista Vmware Fusion drive and used that as the source
for inserting the song into PowerPoint? Can you tell me where I can learn
more about the fair use copyright parameters?

I appreciate the assist. Have a great holiday.

First, sending a copy of the sound file to someone else is a complete infringement of copyright; hence, the comment about using only 20 sec. as part of fair use is totally appropriate and wise and legal.

This may (or may not) be helpful re copyright: <http://www.menc.org/resources/view/copyright-center>.

Second, there are known bugs (my experience) with Mac PPT 08 and sound files, but for your purpose there shouldn't be any problem.

Third, you can use iTunes to convert the file to mp3, which I recommend over other file formats in this case.

Here is another way to LINK (not embed)an iTune file to your ppt slide.

-- open iTunes and find your tune.
-- go to preferences and select "get info".
-- at the bottom of the 1st tab is teeny writing that will tell you the location of the tune. Remember it.
-- go to your ppt slide. Insert the sound the usual way using the location you found in the "get info" tab.

That should do it.

As far as transferring the files, I guess do the pack-and-go or PPT Package thing which is supposed to embed the sound file, allowing you to send the file(s) or burn the files on a CD. However, I've not been satisfied with Package in Mac PPT 08 when I've used it.
