Midi files cannot be embedded. They are always linked and must travel along
with the presentation if it is moved or distributed. To insert a midi file, go
to Insert > Movies and Sounds > Sound from File. See also:

As far as I know powerpoint will only embed WAV files.
And then only after tweaking an "options" setting
