How to format this way?

Running Excel 2000.

I get the feeling this can't be done: I need 10 cells across, in columns A
through J, all the same size (that's easy). But, below those 10 cells, I'd
like one wide cell, as wide as the 10 above it. This wide cell would be for
long text entries. This pattern needs to repeat down the page. I know I
could stick a text box below the 10 cells, but I wonder if there's a way to
achieve this without a text box.

When you've created your top to row, select them both and drag down as far as
you want.

Hi Joe

If you mark cells A2:J2, Format>Cells>Alignment>Merge
Then mark A1:J2, double click the Format Painter icon and paint over as
many rows from column A to J as you require.

Hi

Highlight all ten cells in row below your ten cells,
then select from toolbar

Format - Cells - Alignment - 'tick' merge cells

This will give you one long cell beneath.

Hope I've understood correctly

Gimme a break. I've been using Excel since 1989 and I've never seen that
little check box? Thanks, Roger. I will now make a long overdue appointment
with my eye doctor and get new glasses. :)

Thanks, Graham, but Roger beat you to it. He wins the case of virtual beer.

Dreadful stuff this virtual beer - when I was drinking I was virtually drunk
all the time! <g>

OK - I'm confused. Why can't you just use MERGE across cells?

As in LEFT - MIDDLE - RIGHT - MERGE ACROSS CELLS?

Isn't that exactly what Roger suggested?

Not exactly - my way is at the top of the screen on the ICONS for
LEFT-MIDDLE-RIGHT-MERGE ACROSS. Same result much less steps.

His is to use the FORMAT, etc.

OK - I see what you mean. The menu method's faster for me. No need for the
mouse.
