How to generate custom report

Hi
I have defined custom field of function against each task (like
configuration management,software development,requiremnts managment etc)
Have to generate a report that group all tasks by respective functions and
show total amount of work agaist each function ,as you can see format below:

Function Total Work
Requirements mgt 2 permonths
Project mgt 1.58 permonths

Can any one please help me

Try a Custom Grouping.
Insert a column that has the information you want to Group By. This could
be a Resource Group or perhaps Text1. Also insert the Work column if needed.

Project/Group By: No Group>/Customize Group By...

From there, select your "Text1" field. Click OK

It's not a report, it is a custom sort. So, you can hide undesired columns
and print as desired.
