HOW TO GET PAGE NUMBERS TO ACTUALLY PRINT AND BE SEEN

I am using Word 2000 and know how to insert page numbers and make them
appear on the pages on screen. However, I can never get them to
actually print out on the pages. Is there some secret to this...?
Anybody have a clue?

Is it possible that you place the page numbers too low on the page so that
they are outside the printer's printing area?
