how to get rid of header & footer on 2nd page?

WORD 2003, XP

The help menu says to click on header/footer; then click on next to get to
next page, then highlight text, then hit delete key.
When I did that the header/footer on all pages got deleted.
I'd appreciate any suggestions. TIA.
