How to get selected data records?

Hello,

I am using Office/Access XP and connecting to an external
ODBC database. Connecting to the database is not a
problem. I'd like to know what i should do to get the
records i need based on criteria entered on a form.

I'm not looking for detailed coding help, just point me
to the method of getting the data so i can save some
fields to a plain ascii file.

I would greatly appreciate it.
