how to get the page # and # of pages in a doc to display in word?

I need the page # and the # of pages in a document to display like a toolbar
at the bottom in Word. I am not able to determine what page I'm on if the
document itself doesn't have page #'s.

From the Menu ..
Tools > Options > View (tab)
Under "Show" find the checkbox for "Status Bar" and check it.
