How to have Address Book to list last names alphabetically in new message??

I'm sure there is a very simple answer to this but I have not been able to figure it out. My question is, when you have a blank New Message on the screen, how do you get the Address Book to list by last names alphabetically. I have no problem doing this in Contacts but the Address Book always comes up listed alphabetically by FIRST name instead of last. I have scrolled through every menu choice to no avail. Help.
