how to import a value list into a custom field in MS Project.

Likewise, I am trying to do put a huge WBS into a value list. The custom
value list does not seem to accept even a paste of tab-delimited data records
from another file. While import is not supported, it would be almost as
valuable to be able to paste in a list of values and descriptions from
another file. Individual rows and be cut and pasted from an existing value
list. Paste will work on one data item at a time. We seem to be getting
close but the most useful capability is still missing. Thanks.

He Dana,

The easiest way is to edit your list in xls as per requirement and
then copy all the rows directly (Ctrl+C) & paste (Ctrl+V) in MSP task
field.

I am sure it sounds silly, then did I get your question properly?

Copy and pasting in 2007 is very unreliable and can cause problems
wiith lookup tables

It sounds like you're trying to import a list into a custom look-up table. I
posted a similar question a while back and found that the import function is
only from an already established value list in Project. It appears that cut &
paste one item at a time is the best we can do. Archaic but apparently true.
So sorry...

Thanks Ajit. I not trying to populate rows in a task field. I'm trying to
enter custom values in a value list for a task field. This allows a schedule
builder later to enter data into a particular row of that task field from a
pick-list of acceptable values. In this case it's one of about 200 WBS
codes. I am just trying to avoid typing in the values. Apparently (see
Mike's answer in the ahelp post) a value list can only be populated by typing
in the entries or by importing from a pre-existing value list that someone
else typed.
