How to import common headers/footers to existing document

Hi!

I'm using Word 2003 on XP.

Often we have Word documents without our company logo and address in
header and footer. Therefore it would be nice to be able to import
those into those documents.

I created a new template, hf.dot, with header and footer.

Then I opened a document, summary.doc with no header and footer, and
attached hf.dot through "Tools/Templates and Add-Ins". The headers and
footers in summary.doc were still empty. I tried "View/Header and
Footer", but no luck.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

would it help if you just copied/pasted the header & footer into the new
document?
why not create a template with the header/footer, and use that one when
you want a document with the header/footer?

Thanks for your advice!

Both suggestions would work, but I would like a quicker way of doing
it.

Partly because the people at work need to have an easy way of doing it
and also because it would insure that the correct headers and footers
would always be used.

I thought the use of templates would work, but I'm not sure anymore.

then i maintain my previous suggestion. create a template, that is, a
..dot file, which has the header/footer you want to use.
save it as "headfoot.dot" or something similar, and save to the
templates folder.
anyone wanting to use it goes to File, New and is presented with a list
of available templates.
they choose "headfoot.dot" and create their document from that.

Thanks again!

That's not what I'm looking for though. Often they get ready-made
documents and just want to add headers and footers to them.

why not do it the other way around ... copy the ready made document into
the template that has the header & footer?

That's also an option. I would just like to have it the other way
round.

Thanks again!
