how to import excel spreadsheet to Word

Seda

Hi. I would like to import an excel spreadsheet in a memo
letter in MS Word. I use MS Office 2000.
Can someone help me? Is it a good idea to copy and paste?

Thank you in advance.

Hi Seda - Generally, the best thing to do in Word is: Insert, Object. Micorsoft Excel Worksheet. (If necessary, format the spreadhseet first so that it will look good in Word, e.g. get rid of cell gridlines etc.)

It is generally a bad idea to copy and paste Excel sheets in to Word (way too much formatting to copy over). If you were to copy and paste, try Excel: Copy
Word: Edit, Paste Special, Unformatted Text. This cuts it down to the bare essentials.

I've been fairly lucky in 97 & 2000 with plain Paste and
Paste Special > As Picture. The worst seems to be Paste
Special > As Worksheet Object. It seems all kind of
baggage gets dragged along.

With a plain Paste, you get a Word table. I find it
usually needs decoration, but that's ok because I don't do
too much in Excel, e.g., cell mergers.

With Paste Special > As Picture, I get a floating picture
& convert it to inline. The decorations in Excel come
over ok, but you want to stick to small stuff, less than
a page. This also freezes the data, so someone else can't
use it. I've had co(?)-workers do this.
