how to improve shared mailbox access from branch office

Hi,

Our organization has consolidated all mailboxes to centralize location. A
team of shared services specialist who often work on the shared mailbox
encounter performance issues when trying to access the shared mailbox due to
the shared mailbox are being accessed over the WAN in online mode. The shared
mailbox is attached as a secondary mailbox to their personal mailbox.
Personal mailbox does not have this issue due to all are configure to use
Exchange cache mode.

We have proposed to user Terminal server nearer to the centralize location
and Outlook Web Access but the team oftens needs to archive mails to the PST
file located on their local hard drive which makes the performance suffers.
We also asked the team to configure separate Outlook profile for personal and
shared mailbox and toggle between them. All the above proposal was not
accepted by the team.

We are running Exchange 2007 with Outlook 2007 SP2 client in cache mode.

Does anyone has similar encounter and managed to resolve the performance
issue?
I was wondering anyone use Email Archival or similar solution to solve this
kind of issue before? What is the pros & cons of this solution?

Thanks a lot for any feedback!

Your current configuration of each person having access to the shared
mailbox is correct as it provides accountability for any messages that are
sent, forwarded or replied-to out of the shared mailbox. As you've probably
noticed, Outlook automatically appends the 'FROM' statement to FROM John
Smith ON BEHALF OF ABC Customer Service. Without that, if someone where to
send out something inappropriate or used inappropriate language with a
client, you have no way of determine who the guilty party is. Not to mention
that its also a service issue.
