how to insert page numbers in a customized manner and format

Hi,

I have a 30 page document. I would like the first page not be numbered and
the next 4 pages be numbered in roman from 1-4 and then the numbering should
start from 1 in normal format in the next page onwards. I have tried using
header and footers for this and also tried to play with insert number
properties, but failed to achieve this in a customized way. So i am turning
to you guys if you good help me in this or get me an insight on how it would
work with MS-word 2003.

For your particular situation, you'll need two section breaks to create
three sectors of the paper. First, delete your existing page numbers,
including the gray frame around them.
