How to insert shape between two connected shapes?

Hi,

I'm new to Visio (and this forum), and I'm sure this is probably a simple
question, but I've been unable to find an answer anywhere else.

When working on a flowchart, if you decide you need to add a process step
between two other process steps that are already connected, is there an
easier way to do this than to break the connection, insert your new shape,
and then connect your two shapes to the adjacent shapes?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Assuming that there is enough space between the shapes already placed, you
should be able to drag n drop the new shape on the connector between the two
shapes. The new shape will split the connector and everything will be be
connected as desired. At least, for V2007 that's true. Should work for
V2003.

If that's not working, then, you need to check two things.
1.) File > Page Setup > Layout and Routing Tab and make sure connector
splitting is selected.
2.) Select the shape to be inserted, right click, select format > behavior.
Make sure that Shape can split connectors is checked.

Those are the only two settings that I'm aware of.

Oh, one other thing. The new shape will show a red square around it,
indicating that connection is being made. If the red square doesn't show,
and the settings are correct, then there probably needs to be more space
between the two shapes already placed.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot!

Hey John...
Thanks for the clarification. It's hard to know/remember when some of these
features were cut in. I'll probably forget 5 minutes from now.

Upadate: just tried this at work where I have V2003 Pro, split on drop works
there too.
