HOW TO INSTALL FRONTPAGE 2003 WITHOUT OFFICE

M

Mr.Jacques

it seems to be one of many malfunctions with microsoft, that is needing other
software or programs to run or even install the software (or program) that
someone (me) had just spent hundreds of dollars on several onces of paper and
plastic that says microsoft. why is it so much money to buy one program if
one (I) can not use or run this program without another? perhaps mister billy
gates would reduce the price factor or convert all programs (software) to run
together not off one another? the out come so far is $600.00+ out of my
pocket just to run frontpage

You can indeed install FP 2003 without office. Just buy the program and
install it.

You should be able to install and run FrontPage 2003 without needing to
install the rest of the Office Suite. Sounds like you might be trying to
install an Upgrade version" of FrontPage 2003 and it's looking for a product
on your PC that qualifies you for the upgrade price.

I think you are blaming Microsoft for what appears to be a human interface
problem with your computer. I believe I would begin by checking the device
between the chair and the keyboard.

Assuming you came here for advice, not just to rant.

In the future, before purchasing any new software, read
the requirements listed on the outside of the box. Most,
if not all, software has a lising of hardware and if
applicable software requirements.

FrontPage 2003 is a "stand alone" application,. While it is a member of the "Office Family" it does
not need any other office applications installed to run.

Mr. Jacques is partially right. I was originally running FP98 on Windows 98.
When I got FP2000 I was able to run it without doing anything but when I got
FP2003, I had to buy Windows XP to run it. It was a big expense for me at
the time but I felt that if you want to stay current, these types of upgrades
are necessary. The requirements were listed on the MS Web site and no one was
twisting my arm saying I had to buy FP2003.....but I did :)

Mr.Jacques

thank you for the constructive critisism! let me explain to those who've
spent way too much time b/w the "chair and the keyboard". i upgraded this
computer among others from win98 to winxp. some glitches but over all good
takes of winxp. frontpage has given some back kicks, over all a good program.
i have worked with linux, lindows, servers, c++, html, and very aware of
microsoft glitches in windows, frontpage, exel, publisher, ect. i donot
believe i spent almost $200 on an upgrade for frontpage 2003. i have done
this before to other computers with the same software and had success.
perhaps the product key number is the wrong one for the cd?

If you want help, you need to tell us if you got an upgrade version or a
full version of Frontpage 2003.
When you run the setup what happens?
Does it ask for a qualifying product to upgrade from?
Do you get other errors? Specify!

Regards Jens Peter Karlsen. Microsoft MVP - Frontpage.

"spent almost $200 on an upgrade for frontpage 2003" You must have a
qualifying version of Frontpage (or installation CD) to install an upgrade
version.

Hi Tom, I just wanted to point out that MS quite often creates new products
that are not backwards compatible.

I beg to differ. All Office products are backwards compatible to Office 2.0
or something like that. Well, all except for Access which is backwards
compatible to Office 95.

What are these products that are "often" created that are not backwards
compatible?

Mr. Jacques wrote: "i donot believe i spent almost $200 on an upgrade for
frontpage 2003." I assume that what he means is that he bought the full
version for almost $200 and should not have to treat it like an upgrade,
i.e. need a previous CD to install it.

The full version would never require you to have a prior version.

I would guess from the title of the post that it is asking him to put in the
Office CD. Are there any special features in FP 2003, like language
features, that require files from the Office CD?

It would help if he were more explicit.
