How to know which project needs to be republished after task updates

Hi all,

In project 2007:

In PWA
Resources saved and published their tasks with the actual work
Project Manager accept all the task updates.

How will the project manager know which project he needs to republish in
order to have the latest data in the different views of PWA
How will he know which projects have no new actuals, and so don't need to be
republished.

Should he open every single project in Project Professional and see if he
gets a message that the project plan has been updated?

Any other less time-consuming solution?

Thanks in advance

Hi PP,
The process is different between 2003 and 2007. What version are you using?

I should have read your post properly! I would hope that most project
managers would know which projects they have just accepted the updates for.
I haven't come across an automated report or view which would give you a list
of projects that have had updates accepted but are not published.

In addition to Ben's excellent answers, to help you to determine which
projects need to be published, you might ask your Project Server
administrator to create a custom Project Center view with the following
specifications:

1. Create a new Project Center view and name it something like "Last Saved
and Published."
2. Add the Last Modified, Last Published, and Owner fields to the list of
displayed fields.
3. Move the Last Modified and Last Published fields directly below the
Project Name field.
4. Set the Group By value to Owner.
5. Add the View to the My Projects and My Organization categories.
6. Save the new custom Project Center view.

When you navigate to the Project Center page and apply the new custom "Last
Saved and Published" view, you should be able to quickly determine which
projects need to be opened and published in Project Professional 2007. Just
a thought. Hope this helps.

Thanks Ben and Dale for your answers.

I created the view and it gives me a better view on which project has not
been published for a long time.

What a pity that we can't have a view/report which would give us a list of
projects that have had updates accepted but are not published yet.
Because this is really what I was looking for.

Anyway, we will review our publish process with Project Professional hoping
that it gives a better less time consuming result.

Thanks

Just an additional thought. In the custom View I suggested, you could add a
Filter that shows a project when Last Published < Last Modified. I believe
that would show you exactly what you want to see, listed by Owner of the
projects. Hope this helps.
