How to link Excel with Ms project schedule / fields

N

Nitesh

Hi All;

Is there any way to link Ms Project fields to Ms Excel cells, so that when
ever some changes done in MS project schedule the linked field’s automatic
update in excel sheet. Presently we are using Ms Project professional 2003
and MS office 2003. Actually we have a weekly presentation to our senior
management ( by Power point presentation) regarding our project progress and
we are manually update our presentation(Like Start date, Baseline Finish ,
Baseline cost , Actual cost , Expected Finish date, etc. fields) and it takes
too much time for updating presentation and extend our manual process also.
So we need some mechanism / tool which automatically update project
information (like fields and other project information) in linked excel sheet
and we copy, paste from excel to presentation.

Is this a right forum to publish my problem or is there any other forum.
Need your help and thanks in advance

Hello Nitesh,

You can create DDE links (Data Dynamic Exchange) :
1°- Copy a cell in Microsoft Project
2°- In Excel sheet : Past / Past special / Paste Link
Hope this helps,

Nitesh,

Has your team thought about using the dashboard approach to show progress
etc through a view or views. You could have a series of views available with
real time information everyday and then present the views of choice at the
weekly meeting.

Those sorts of links are notoriously fragile...
I'd consider a filtered export of the data to excel to be a better option.
