How to link to an FTP folder?

H

Howard Kelley

I have a folder established to provide ftp files to customers. This folder
functions well when the customer goes direct with his brower, i.e., uses
ftp.xxx.com -- log-in name -- password.

However, I also provide access to this folder from a web page with a
hyperlink in the form of: ftp.xxx.com. I then get a "This page Can Not be
Displayed." Yet when I hit refresh, I get the log-in screen and I can proceed
as normal.

What is the proper form for hyperlinking to an FTP folder?

You're already doing it the right way. Ithink you may be encountering a
browser caching issue.

I thought so, too, however, every machine I have tried it on (about a half
dozen) does the same thing. Is there a way of purging the cache or forcing
the user to get a refreshed page (not sure I asked that question correctly).

Now, that's definitely odd. It would help if you post a URL. I assume it
doesn't allow anonymous access, but at least we could see the initial
problem.

Is there a way for me to email you the URL and sign-in outside of this
discussion group?

Ordinarily, I would not. However, if you're willing to post your email
address, I can email you mine. The email address I use for replies, which is
also SPAM-proofed, is my home email. I would respond when I get home, but
you may want a response sooner than that.

That's fair. I will give you an alternate of mine which I will monitor for
this purpose. Thank you for your willingness to help.

email to: (e-mail address removed)

I will send you URL and log-ins.
