How to make Outlook default MAPI client with Notes being default mail client?

I have a situation where users are running both Lotus Notes and
Outlook. My software uses MAPI. I'd like MAPI to be using Outlook while
Notes should remain the default e-mail application for everything else
(especially since it doesn't do MAPI anyway). Is there a way to do
this?

Better yet, explicitly load the right version of the dll from C:\Program
Files, rather than statically linking with mapi32.dll.
