How to make powerpoint load photos one at a time ...

I have a large (200 +) photo slideshow.... is there a way for powerpoint to
load each slide as needed from disk, instead of loading all of the slides
into memory? Thanks, John

Do you mean that when the show is to be run, you want have each photo called
and loaded only when the slide advances (and not loaded when the show is
beginning)? I'll assume that you want to do this because of slow load and
low memory issues.

I don't know when PowerPoint loads linked photos, but I did not see any size
saving when I created a presentation (I think this is because, in addition
to the link to the photo, PowerPoint inserts a picture of the photo it will
load -- silly, no?)

I'd suggest creating a base (picket fence) presentation that would link to
several smaller presentations. You can create shows of 50 slides each, than
link each to a base show. As each show completes, it will revert back to
the base show.

Base show layout:
Slide 1 -- Opening slide
Slide 2 -- link to first 50 slide presentation
Slide 3 -- link to second 50 slide presentation
.....
Slide 39 -- link to last 50 slide presentation
Slide 40 -- end slide

Now, obviously, I picked 50 as a random number. You may find that more or
less work for your presentation. The advantage to picket-fencing is that
you will only ever have 1 or 2 shows open at a time. This will cut the
amount of memory in use, but at a price -- some transitions into linked
shows will be slower.
