how to merge several word docs having different page setups into 1?

I have several MS word docs created by me (and others) at different
times during my tenure as a lecturer. They are essentially notes of
the subjects i teach. I would like to now compile them into a
consolidated book but i find that they have different margins (left,
right, top and bottom), sometimes different page lengths and widths
(letter, A4, and even legal) and even different headers and footers.
Each has different numbver sequencing too.

One thing though they are all MS Word docs

How do i get them (or may i ask what's the asiest way) together into a
single file and have a common page dimensions, headers anbd footers,
margins and be in a position to number them from 1 to xxx ?

I use MS word 2003. I do not buying to word add-in that can
accomplish this or any other siftware program that someone recommends
(out of experience!). I do not think publisher is meant for this. A
few years ago MS had an office tool called Binder which could
accomplish this but what's the solution now ?

I wish to learn the details of any procedure to do this so do give
details or a really good guide on the net if theat's where you are
going to point me to

You could highlight all of the text <ctrl> A, then copy and paste it into the second document.
Then select all of the new document, again <ctrl> A, and set your margins, page size, numbering etc.
