We’re planning to move an on-premises Exchange environment to Microsoft 365, and one concern is the older email data stored in archive mailboxes. The primary mailbox migration seems straightforward, but I’m trying to understand the best approach for moving large archive data while keeping folders, attachments, and historical emails intact.
For anyone working on a similar migration, what process do you follow to Migrate Archive Mailbox to Office 365? Before starting, I assume it’s important to check the archive size, source Exchange version, Microsoft 365 licensing, archive configuration, retention policies, and connectivity.
For a smaller environment, the native Exchange migration options may be sufficient. However, things become more complicated when there are multiple users or archive mailboxes containing hundreds of GBs of data. Managing migration batches, user mapping, duplicate items, and failed or interrupted transfers manually can take considerable effort.
I also came across SysInfo Exchange Server Backup Software, which appears to provide options for handling larger mailbox migrations. Features such as date-based filtering, duplicate removal, skipping previously migrated data, user mapping, and migration reports could be useful when dealing with large archives.
